IN: New shoelaces. For my running shoes, purchased at Famous Footwear.OUT: Old, broken shoelaces. Worn through by my running shoes. Sent to trash. OUT (extra): Old, old running shoes. Sent to Goodwill.
I was inspired by "The 100 thing challenge", an idea I first read about in Time magazine... I'm not brave enough (yet) to reduce my material things to 100 items or less, but I did come up with a similar-in-theme New Year Resolution for 2009: give away/sell/toss more items than I accumulate.
My ground rules: whenever I purchase or otherwise acquire a new thing, I'll properly dispose of some other thing. The things should be of roughly equivalent monetary value, and I'll try to make sure that they both come from the same part of my life. For the sake of this exercise, I'm defining things as items that are meant to be used for more than a year... so food, toilet paper, etc. don't count. On the other hand, pants, a calendar, a bike tire do count.
This blog is just meant to be a record of this resolution... both of what's coming in and what's going out.
why don't you save the old shoes for when you buy a new pair in the future?
